Support the Grey Art Museum
The Grey Art Museum invites NYU’s community to embark on transformative encounters with art by fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary exploration. As a museum-laboratory, uniquely positioned to enhance visual literacy and engage with diverse cultural histories, the Grey sparks innovative scholarship. Reflecting NYU’s global mission, the Grey advances understanding across contexts and time while connecting with the cultural, intellectual, and environmental spheres of New York City and the world.
Your support empowers the Grey to thrive as NYU’s fine arts museum. Contributions to the General Fund sustain our groundbreaking exhibitions, public programs, and award-winning publications. Together, we can nurture experiential learning and inspire discovery for NYU’s global network.
We’re proud to welcome you to visit our recently reopened home at 18 Cooper Square, New York, NY 10003.
One Day 2025
Lynn Gumpert, who has served as director of New York University's Grey Art Museum since 1997, will retire in mid-April 2025. During her tenure, the museum has presented more than 80 exhibitions focused on a wide range of topics, from abstract art from the Arab world to downtown galleries in New York City, expanded its collection, and moved to a larger and more accessible location at 18 Cooper Square.
As museum director, curator, administrator, and art historian, Gumpert has raised the profile of the Grey by presenting ambitious exhibitions and engaging with faculty and students from across the University. Deputy Director Michèle Wong (at the Grey since 1980) will be interim director. In 2025, the Grey Art Museum also celebrates its 50th anniversary!
This year, we ask that you recognize the Grey’s remarkable 50-year history and Gumpert’s 28 years of steadfast leadership. Your continued support during this time of transition is truly appreciated—every dollar counts and a donation of any size makes a difference!
